Hindi Our Mother Tongue Or Shame

Hindi is one of  the most common language spoken in India. It’s the fifth most spoken language in the world with 182 million native speakers in 1988. At what percentage it’s correct? Do all Indians know Hindi??

Hindi is widely written and spoken in the northern part and some other places in India. It’s our mother tongue then why it is not given the importance? Why in all Indian state Hindi is not compulsory? Are we ashamed of our language?

Why English is taught in every school in India. Why we are not opposing English, It’s a shame. Why Hindi is not declared as National language.

One day I was sitting in my living room, Promlia aunty she uses to do all household chores in my house. She barely speaks some Hindi words, it was very difficult for her to express something in Hindi. The worst part is she doesn’t even want to learn a new language. I told her many times Hindi is our mother tongue she comes up with the excuse “madam ab hum Kaise sikhega?”. Bengali is mine mother tongue and Hindi is quite difficult for me to speak and understand. This is India where we respect our old and orthodox tradition but not language.

As per today’s news “No compulsory Hindi in India” after Tamil anger. If they are not comfortable with it doesn’t mean Hindi will not be mandatory. Why we are giving them the authority to decide what is correct/ incorrect. If you will check any social site you will find all the south Indians are opposing the Hindi language. What is wrong in learning Hindi? Can we rise above politicizing the issue? It is not “Ram Mandir” after all. We all are Indians we should support and promote our language instead of standing against it. We all know India is a land of diversity, we should respect all language but one language should be common in all states instead of English i.e, Hindi. There is no shame in declaring Hindi as our National language.

It’s a pride to be Indian…India is a land of diversity. We respect other culture, language, and tradition.

Then why we all are not accepting Hindi as our “Mother tongue”.
